NORLIN Wan Musa made a major change in her life when she left her full-time job in public relations and media to become a unit trust consultant. Now she has more quality time to spend with her children, something she treasured but did not have while working full-time. She even has time to blog. Through Ask Norlin at http://asknorlin.wordpress.com, she shares her experiences about motherhood and offers advice on investments. “I started my blog after leaving my full-time job in the first half of last year. When I decided to become a unit trust consultant, I started to learn more about investments, unit trusts in particular,” she said. “What I have learnt I decided to share it on my blog, especially on unit trust investment. I believe in educating my investors so they can make informed decisions.” Norlin was a journalist for over 13 years, so writing comes naturally. “Ask Norlin also features write-ups on motherhood, a subject I am very passionate about. You can read about my experiences as a mother of two in my blog,” she said. Norlin’s daily routine comprises spending the first half of the day with her children and the remaining half working as a unit trust consultant with Public Mutual. “My office is in Damansara, but with the help of technology, I can work from home. When I do go out, it is to meet potential investors or close sales. My assistant helps me with the paperwork,” she said. So far, Ask Norlin has received over 500 hits. “The content is mostly stuff that is close to my heart. I love sharing with my readers what I know. While I do not have any high expectations, it thrills me to know that people read and enjoy my blog through their comments,” Norlin said. Her blog, which is hosted on Wordpress.com, is still in its infancy with not much optimisation, save for some links to other sites. “Some of my readers tell me that they relate to my postings on motherhood. I have also received comments on postings on unit trust investment. Some of my investors and colleagues tell me they refer to my blog for information,” she said. Due to her busy schedule, juggling motherhood and work, Norlin said she has not been able to write as frequently as she would like to. “I hope to be able to update my blog more regularly. I would also like to add more links, pictures and probably do some polls. Who knows, in the future I may even add video. I used to do Web video reporting, editing and producing.” Got a blog we could feature? Write and tell us more. |
