TAIPING: Whenever it rains, a 200m stretch of the main road from Batu 2½ to Pengkalan Aur here will be flooded because the drains are clogged.

Motorist Hashim Maarof, 50, said it would take about three hours for the floodwaters to subside.

“Motorists have to be extra careful as the water is 0.3m deep.

“The local authorities should take this matter seriously and clean up the drains. This is a busy stretch of road and it endangers road users,” he said.

Hashim said some people had to use alternative roads to avoid the traffic congestion.

Taiping Municipal Council president Datuk Abdul Rahim Md Ariff said the drains were cleared and deepened on Tuesday.

He said he hoped that the flash flood problem had been solved and added that the council would monitor the situation.
