SEREMBAN: Seremban DAP Member of Parliament (MP) Loke Siew Fook’s infrequent meetings with the local community in Seremban has given MCA an edge in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14), said MCA youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
Chong, who frequently takes part in programmes there, said he had received numerous complaints from the people about not meeting their MP.
“There are people who have only heard of the MP’s name but have never seen him. This is probably because he is always travelling.
“As an MP, he should be brining up the issues in Seremban to Parliament, but I have never heard him say anything about. He has only brought up national issues and made slanderous allegations against the government.
“Overall, DAP is not active in Negri Sembilan," he said after attending a Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Kampung Baru Paroi, today.
In December, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced that Chong would contest in Seremban.
Chong said he had a 50 per cent chance of winning but will continue with his efforts.
He said he has received positive feedback from the Seremban community, including from the Malays and Chinese.
“The voters will eventually realise they need an elected representative who can help solve their problems,” he said.
In GE13, Loke obtained 45,628 votes with a majority of 12,553 votes, beating MCA candidate Yeow Chai Thiam (33,075 votes), Berjasa party member Abdul Halim Abdullah (6,866) and two independent candidates, John Fernandez (221) and Bujang Abu (81).
