KUALA LUMPUR: "Eh gila ke? (That's crazy!)."
This was Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s immediate response when asked to comment on rumours that she will contest in Putrajaya in the 14th general election (GE14).
The Umno Wanita chief urged the public not to speculate on such matters, especially since her main priority at the moment is to ensure that the election machinery of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) women's wing is at its best.
"All these rumours should stop. (We should leave) matters pertaining to candidate selection for (GE14) to BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak," she said at the 'Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat' programme in Kepong today.
Shahrizat said it would not be prudent for her or anyone else to name GE14 candidates and constituencies at this point in time.
"As the Women's chief, I can only suggest names. The rest depends on the chairman," she added.
Shahrizat said Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who is the Putrajaya Member of Parliament, has been doing an excellent job in the constituency.
"He is always concerned about the people of Putrajaya, and I am very impressed with his leadership there," she added.
On whether she plans to make a comeback in the GE14, Shahrizat said "Wallahualam (only God knows) what will happen tomorrow.
"There is no need for speculation. We should never precede Allah," she added.
