ALOR STAR: National doubles player Goh V Shem hopes fans will turn up in numbers to support Malaysia in the Asia Team Championship, which starts on Tuesday, at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium.

V Shem said: “We need the fans to support and motivate us when we start our campaign against Thailand tomorrow.”

“Basically, we want our supporters to rattle our opponents,” said the 28-year-old.

Malaysia’s other Group C opponents are Taiwan and Myanmar.

V Shem said Thailand are a balanced team.

“I not only want to help Malaysia top Group C but also qualify for the Thomas Cup in May.

“While Thailand are decent, Taiwan have strong pairs in Chen Hung Ling-Wang Chi Lin and Lee Jhe Huei-Lee Yang.

“Tan Wee Kiong and I need to be consistent and play to our strength as there will be no easy matches.

V Shem-Wee Kiong are expected to face Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren in Tuesday’s tie.
