IPOH: ‘‘The performance of the Perak players was just amazing,’’ said Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic after The Bos Gaurus side defeated Selangor 3-0 in a Malaysia Super League match played at the TLDM Stadium in Lumut last night (Sunday).
“Each and every player played very well throughout the match.
“We controlled the match and by right we should have won by a bigger margin.
“I am happy with this win for sure. It would be fantastic if my players can play like this in all our matches after this,” said Durakovic, who once coached as well as played for Selangor.
In the match, Perak scored all their goals in the first half which began with an own goal from Selangor rightback Ashmawi Yakin, with the other two coming from midfielder D. Kenny Pallraj and Brazilian forward Gilmar Jose Da Silva.
P. Maniam’s charges did try to bounce back in the second half but they just could not penetrate the rock solid Perak defense.
Coach Durakovic did not expect his team to be able to register such a comfortable win against a team who are regarded as one of the giants of Malaysian football.
“Actually this was anything but an easy match as Selangor did get back into the match in the second half.
“Whatever it is I am very proud of my players because they played according to plan and showed character and a strong level of discipline to hold it together until the final whistle,” he said.
Durakovic added that his players deserved to celebrate their victory, but they have to maintain their focus and composure for the next match as they take on Penang in an FA Cup third round match this Saturday.
