KAJANG: In continuing with efforts to help poor and less fortunate muslim converts (asnaf mualaf), the Malaysia Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) organised the 2018 Selangor Perkim Charity Golf tournament which took place at the Impian Golf & Country Club earlier today.

By organising the tournament which has been held annually since 2016, Perkim managed to raise funds amounting to RM110,000.

Perkim chief executive officer, Mokhtar Ismail said the funds raised from this year’s tournament will be channeled to bear some of the cost in building the organisation’s first complex in Shah Alam which cost RM8 million to build and was completed in August last year.

“At the time when I was first appointed as Perkim chief executive officer in 2016, the savings that we had was only about RM800.

“Because of this, I gave the idea to organise a golf tournament to help raise much needed funds and in its first year back in 2016 we manage to raise RM300,000.

“This time round, the charity funds we have collected will be used specifically to pay off the final balance of building the complex,” he said.

Mokhtar explained that the complex, which is in the midst of obtaining it’s Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) from the local government authorities, is hoped will be able to generate funds for Perkim.

“If we were to rent or lease out this complex, I estimate Perkim will be able to earn as much as RM100,000 a month.

“And this will be used to help and assist even more poor and less fortunate muslim converts, because their numbers keep on increasing as days go by,” he said.

As many as 68 participants took part in the tournament which saw Media Prima Berhad (MPB) and the New Straits Times Press Malaysia Berhad acknowledged as being part of Perkim’s circle of friends.
