KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Ben Leong has been playing at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) for 10 years, and today at the venue, he returned a superb four-under 68 in the CIMB Classic first round.
He had eight birdies, but his game was bogged down by a double bogey on the 12th as well as bogeys on the seventh and 10th holes.
Ben ended the day tied-20th but he is not obsessed with how it is going to end on Sunday, as he is grateful of just getting a chance to play in the Classic.
"I started a little bad, but told myself that there are a few more days to play and there is no hurry. That calmed my game and I managed to get a few more birdies.
"However, I am not worried about the number (how many under) I will end up on Sunday, as I am grateful for getting a chance to play here," said Ben.
When asked about the newly laid course: "I have been playing here for 10 years and even though there were a few changes, I am still able to play my game."
The other Malaysian competitor, Kim Leun Kwang could only manage four-over 76 to be tied 75th among 78 golfers.
He had a round of two birdies, one double bogey and four bogeys.
