KUALA LUMPUR: Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah has hinted that he prefers to be based in Barcelona, Spain for the coming season instead of in France where his new team, Monster Yamaha Tech3 are based.
The talented Malaysian rider who will be making his debut together with his new team during the MotoGP class official testing at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand this coming Friday said that such a decision favouring Spain is better since he has acclimatised himself with the weather as well as the Spanish language.
The 24-year-old rider also said that he will only go to France if called or summoned by the team as it is only less than two hours by flight from Spain to France.
“The team is based in France though I want to be based in Spain,” said Hafizh. I plan to remain in Spain because I am more comfortable there (Barcelona).
“I am now already able to converse in Spanish and I do not want to put unnecessary pressure on myself to be based in France as then I will have to learn French and acclimatise myself with the weather over in France which can be unpredictable, whereas in Spain I am comfortable with the weather there,”
Buriram International Circuit is expected to welcome the arrival of MotoGP riders and their respective teams for three days from Friday onwards, and the new circuit which will host a race for the 2018 MotoGP season. It is also understood that Hafizh will sign up for a full season with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team at Buriram as well.
